MAX Family Safe Tornado Shelter
The framing is 2″ x 2″ square tubing which supports 150,000 pounds. A 3/8″ x 3″ x 3″ angle around the perimeter is the base that the 5/8″ x 4 3/4″ HILTI bolts are anchored through to your concrete that holds the unit securely in place. The ceiling and walls are 3/16″ thick steel. The patent pending Safe-T-door is double sided with 1/4″ steel + framing + 3/16″ steel that weighs 400 pounds. There are 3 commercial grade deadbolts, 4 hinges, 2 katy bars totaling eleven points of contact to hold the door shut. There are 173 square inches of air ventilation around the door, an air vent in the ceiling, a 4″ x 4″ junction box welded to ceiling with a 3/4″ hole through the ceiling so you can add electricity, light, phone or alarm keypad. The door also has a lift and release system and a removable door makes it next to impossible to be locked inside. No other shelter has been hit by more EF-4 and EF-5 Tornadoes than the FamilySAFE original shelter.
